Driver charged after woman dies and boy, 10, injured in crash

A pensioner involved in a two car crash in North Lanarkshire has died in hospital.

Margaret Allan, was taken to hospital after the red Peugeot 108 she was driving was involved in a collision with a Ford Mondeo Titanium on Condorrat Ring Road in Cumbernauld on 15 June.

The 77-year-old died on 6 July. A 10-year-old schoolboy travelling with her was injured and taken to a separate hospital, from where he has since been discharged.

Police Scotland said a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

The 29-year-old male driver of the Ford – who has not been named by officers – was uninjured and has since been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

Police Scotland said enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the crash and officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Sergeant Andrew Coutts said: “My thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman who died following this incident.

“We know from enquiries so far that the road was busy at the time and a lot of people will have witnessed the crash.

“I would urge anyone with information or who saw the vehicles prior to the crash to get in touch with us.”
